U.S. Calvary Horse

U.S. Calvary Horse

$20.00
First published in 1895 as a handbook of instructions for teaching, this book provides a wealth of information on horses in general. Chapters in the 407 pages include: Framework of the Horse: Mechanically Considered; Gaits of the Horse; Bits; Bitting & Training; Saddles; Endurance of Horses; Ages of Horses and Veterinary Supplies & Prescriptions plus Diseases & Injuries. Vets weren't always available to the marching Cavalry unit so the Cavalry rider had to use what was available and what he could carry to care for his horse from shoes and feed to a multi-use saddle blanket to use as a bed for the rider. The Cavalry's effectiveness was determined by the dependability of their horses! An interesting book not only from a historical standpoint but from just common sense for the caring of a horse!! (Be sure to read the part about transporting horses around the world via ships and the numbers utilized by the Cavalry not only in the US but other countries.)
